A person suspected of committing war crimes in Malisheva has been arrested

The Kosovo Police today arrested a person suspected of participating in the massacre of 34 Albanian civilians in the village of Burim, Malisheva, in 1999.

The arrested individual is identified by the initials R.M. and is suspected of committing the criminal offense of "War crime against the civilian population."

According to a statement from the Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo, he was arrested in Prishtina.

“R.M. is suspected of having participated, during the Kosovo war between March 29-31, 1999, together with members of Serbian police and military forces, in the massacre of 34 Albanian civilians in the village of Burim, Municipality of Malisheva,” said the Prosecutor’s Office. They emphasized that during the investigation phase, material evidence has been secured, including testimonies from eyewitnesses and survivors.

The Special Prosecutor’s Office will submit a request for the detention measure to the Basic Court of Prishtina, Special Department.
