The incumbent President, Vjosa Osmani on the 553rd anniversary of the death of our National Hero, Gjergj Kastrioti-Skenderbeu, said that he was a strong dam of European defense, who was couragous in all his confrontations. Osmani wrote on Facebook that in addition to being a relentless fighter, Gjergj Kastrioti remains the icon of our unity. At the beginning of March 1444, in the Assembly of Lezha, he realized the first political union of the Albanian princes of the time, which paved the way for the establishment of the medieval Albanian state. "Skanderbeg is the inspiration of resistance and the fight for freedom in all periods. But above all, he remains the unique model of unification of Albanians and as such will always be remembered. May the memory of our chief strategist be eternal", he wrote.
