The agreement with Denmark for the utilization of the prison premises in Gjilan will again be on the agenda tomorrow for ratification in the Assembly of Kosovo. During this week, the Danish Minister of Justice, Peter Hummelgaard, also met with the opposition parties, where he requested the approval of this agreement. The Democratic Party of Kosovo has not changed its position, from this party they say that they will not participate in the vote at all.

There are also differences in the Democratic League of Kosovo, where not all MPs support this agreement. Meanwhile, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo will vote on this and other international agreements. The ruling party considers that if this agreement does not find support from the opposition parties, bilateral relations with the Danish state will be hurt.

The Ministry of Justice has informed KosovaPress that in the session of February 15, the voting on the agreement with Denmark will be on the agenda.

"The Ministry of Justice announces that in the next session of February 15, 2024, [the agreement with Denmark] will be discussed in the Assembly of the Republic where it is expected to receive the necessary votes from the MPs", says the response of the Ministry of Justice.

The chairman of the Commission for Legislation, Adnan Rrustemi, says that the opposition parties have no objections to the content of the agreement, however, he considers that this has to do with political anger.

However, he hopes that the agreement with Denmark will be ratified at tomorrow's session. On the contrary, as Rrustemi says, Kosovo is not a serious party against the Danish state.

Even after the meeting with the Minister of Justice of Denmark, the Democratic Party of Kosovo will not participate in the voting of this agreement. MP Blerta Deliu-Kodra says that the key topic of the meeting with the minister was the agreement for the Gjilan prison.

They will participate in the vote, but the MPs of the Democratic League of Kosovo are not unique in terms of this agreement.

Deputy Driton Selmanaj declares for KosovaPress that some MPs have their own dilemmas regarding this agreement.

Further, it is stated that this agreement has advanced and the Danish parliament has supported it with a vote.

Meanwhile, the head of the Parliamentary Group of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Besnik Tahiri, says that they will vote on this and other international agreements.

This agreement was ratified in the Danish parliament in 2022. Meanwhile, Kosovo and Denmark signed a letter of consent in December 2021, according to which, 300 Kosovo prison cells will be given to the Danish state for use.
