The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and the Government of Kosovo launched the Compact program, which will enable clean energy solutions to improve the energy situation in Kosovo.

In her speech, the President of the country, Vjosa Osmani, thanking the United States of America for its continuous support to Kosovo, said that this project is not only an investment in energy, but also in the future of the country.

She said that at the center of this project is the transformation of the energy sector through the principle of equality.

Osmani emphasized that MCC focuses on projects that aim to store energy in batteries and as such will revolutionize Kosovo's energy sector.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, expressing his happiness for the design of the program that puts Kosovo at the forefront of renewable energy development, said that thanks to this project, the country will have at least 350 megawatts of reserves.

Kurti emphasized that this program aims to ensure that the youth of the country who are professionally prepared participate in the modern energy sector in the future.

He also promised to increase the participation of women in the energy sector to at least 33 percent by 2031.

And in his speech, the American ambassador in Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, gave more details about this grant.

He said that the compacts are 5-year grants between MCC and countries that meet certain criteria, adding that it is important that Kosovo is part of those countries.

Hovenier said these agreements fund programs to enable environments for private sector investment.

Meanwhile, the vice president of MCC, Cameron Alford, has assessed the "Compact" program as important for energy security.

He added that this program offers career opportunities to young people who want to be in the energy sector.

Meanwhile, expressing his conviction in the results of this project, he said that he is confident that success will be achieved thanks to the great work that will be done by the members of the Government, the MCC and all others involved in this program.

The MCC-Kosovo Compact aims to introduce an advanced energy storage system, laying the foundations for reliable, renewable energy sources to be integrated into the Kosovo grid, and reducing the need for coal-fired power as well as costly energy imports. The $202 million compact, along with a $34.7 million contribution from the Government of Kosovo, brings the total to $236.7 million.
