The head of the Parliamentary Group of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Besnik Tahiri, has criticized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for not working enough for the country's membership in the Council of Europe.

He said in a press conference on Sunday that the Kurti Government had to document the September 24 terrorist attack in Banjska and demand the arrest of the author of this attack, Milan Radojcic, who continues to remain free in Serbia.

The head of Kosovar diplomacy, Donika Gërvalla, has expressed her belief that during this period Kosovo will join the Council of Europe. During the Dubrovnik Forum, she stated that they are working with ministers and ambassadors in the Council of Europe for membership to take place this year.

Kosovo remained off the agenda at the meeting of the Council of Ministers on May 17, 2024 after a part of the member countries of the Council of Europe requested that Kosovo take steps towards the establishment of the association.

Kosovo was left out of the Council of Europe, due to the fact that the Government of Kosovo did not send a draft EU statute for the establishment of the association to the Constitutional Court for consideration.

Kosovo sent a letter of commitment a day earlier to the Council of Europe, where it was said that Kosovo will draw up a draft statute for the association by the end of May, but this did not find support from international mechanisms.

Kosovo applied for membership in the Council of Europe a year ago. On April 16, 2024, the Parliamentary Assembly of the CoE supported the report of Dora Bakoyannis, which recommends Kosovo's membership in this organization. However, the main European countries conditioned the vote on the establishment of the association, which the Constitutional Court in 2015 considered to be not in harmony with the Constitution of Kosovo.
