The Minister of Defense, Xhelal Sveçla, commenting on last night's action of the Kosovo Police in a village of Leposaviq, where five policemen were injured and two vehicles were damaged, said that the policemen carried out the operation best by stopping two smugglers, but the hesitation for justice bodies to act, it automatically translates into empowering criminals and increasing their self-confidence. He praised the work of the police but did not agree with the action of the prosecutor of the basic prosecution, who immediately released one of the smugglers who attacked the police. Sveçla's comment: When law enforcement agencies take action against organized crime, this action must be well thought out and determined. Organized crime develops when law enforcement agencies hesitate. In the last night’s case, after the attack carried out by the smugglers on the police patrol, our policemen carried out the operation in the best way. Both smugglers were arrested. But it took the intervention of the special unit for them to return. 5 of the policemen were injured and two of the police vehicles were damaged. Police officials have asked the Special Prosecutor's Office to investigate the incident. Even after their insistence, the Prosecution did not respond positively. Meanwhile, the prosecutor of the basic prosecution immediately released one of the smugglers who attacked the police. So, I am once again expressing my deep conviction. The reluctance to act of the justice bodies automatically translates into empowerment of criminals and increased self-confidence among them. The opposite must happen, the justice system must be established and crime must be deterred. Criminals should not think they can attack the police and then get away with it. The organs of the state, order and justice have only one goal: to return order and security to normality, but not to attack our police nor to break the rules and laws. I have the utmost respect and gratitude for the policemen who risk their lives to enforce the laws of the state of Kosovo. Any attempted murder against them must be punished strictly and quickly, without any hesitation and with the participation of all institutions according to their roles and duties.
