Osmani: Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe would be a triumph for democracy

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, today received in a meeting the United Kingdom's special envoy for the Western Balkans, Lord Stuart Peach, where they discussed Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe, the latest developments in the country and the region, as well as security challenges in the region and beyond.

According to the press release of the Presidency, about the Council of Europe, Osmani emphasized that Kosovo's membership would be a triumph for democracy and human rights not only in Kosovo, but throughout Europe.

Osmani reiterated that through the various mechanisms offered by the Council, it would be possible to protect and guarantee the rights of all citizens of Kosovo, without distinction.

"President Osmani expressed her gratitude and reiterated the importance of the United Kingdom's continued support in this direction, as in any other process of membership in international organizations. The meeting also discussed the security situation, with a special emphasis on the north of the country", reads the press release.
