Most schools in the north refuse to serve as polling stations, only 10 are accessible
Only ten polling stations out of 43 are still accessible in the four northern municipalities for the vote to remove the mayors from office on April 21. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) announced that 33 voting centers, mainly school buildings, have refused to be used for the voting process. According to them, they are working intensively to find alternative locations for voting in the four (4) municipalities of North Mitrovica, Zveçan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok. On the other hand, the members of the CEC demanded that school principals be prosecuted for obstructing the election process.
The head of the secretariat of the CEC, Burim Ahmetaj, said that the principals of the schools in the north have refused to give access to the CEC with the claim that they have school and cultural activities on the day of the elections.
However, he said that they are working to identify the locations for the opening of alternative voting centers on April 21.
The CEC member from VV, Sami Kurteshi, requested criminal prosecution for the persons who refused to use the school facilities for the April 21 vote.
The same opinion was expressed by the member of the CEC from the PDK, Arianit Elshani, who underlined the need for the voting process to be held in each polling station closer to the citizens.
In addition, at today's meeting, the CEC also approved the list of observers for the April 21 vote./KosovaPress/
