Kosovo Customs discovers commercial goods and €29,900 in undeclared cash in Hani i Elezit
Kosovo Customs has uncovered undeclared commercial goods and €29,900 in cash during a control at the Hani i Elezit Border Crossing Point.
According to a statement by Kosovo Customs, the incident occurred on July 6, when customs officers, based on risk analysis and standard control procedures, selected a vehicle with North Macedonian license plates entering Kosovo for inspection.
During the initial interview, the driver stated that he was not carrying any goods or monetary assets requiring declaration. However, a physical inspection revealed undeclared commercial goods, while a total of €29,900 in cash was found on the driver and passenger. The money had not been declared to customs authorities.
Kosovo Customs recalled that, according to the Customs and Excise Code of the Republic of Kosovo, failure to declare goods subject to customs procedures constitutes a violation. It also noted that any person entering or leaving Kosovo with €10,000 or more, or the equivalent amount in another currency, is required to declare the funds to customs authorities.
According to the statement, the undeclared goods, cash, and the vehicle were seized in this case, while legal proceedings will be initiated against the parties involved and measures foreseen by the applicable legislation will be taken, including procedures for customs violations.
Kosovo Customs emphasized that it remains committed to combating illegal trade, smuggling, and preventing money laundering, with the aim of protecting customs borders and ensuring the country’s economic security.
