International Refugee Day was marked today in the square "Zahir Pajaziti", in Pristina with the activity "I was a refugee".Citizens on this occasion have listed the names of all those who were refugees during the last war in Kosovo.Fjona Haxhismajli from the Youth Initiative for Human Rights, said that the purpose of this activity is for citizens who were refugees during the war to share their stories.
"With a street activity, we are marking this day by saying that I was a refugee, but also "I support the refugees." In this way we are engaging the citizens symbolically, to remain as a document, a way for all of us to be part of the action. There they are signing and putting their name, but also in this way they have the opportunity to share their stories, because we have created a virtual platform on the Internet, it is the virtual museum of refugees. There are different stories, as well as different narratives of people who have already shared their experiences. The platform is since 2020, people have shared their refugee stories during the last war in Kosovo. We have stories from different people and from different ethnicities", stressed Haxhismajli.
She also spoke about the platform, "Museum of the childhood of the last war in Kosovo", which is collecting materials with the experiences of citizens who were refugees during the war in Kosovo.
"We also have the platform" Museum of the childhood of the last war in Kosovo ", which is in the process of being created, and we are collecting different materials and stories from people", said Haxhismajli.
We recall that about 1 million Albanians were forced to flee their homes during the war in Kosovo and each of them has a story of his own.
