The trend of import of goods and products from Serbia has further increased, compared to the same period of the previous year. Only in the first 5 months of this year, Kosovo has imported goods from this neighboring country worth over 130 million euros, or about 25 million euros more than in the same period last year. From the business community and economics experts, they say that this trend of increasing imports of goods from Serbia is happening for several reasons, one of them because the Government of Kosovo is not supporting local producers like Serbia its companies. The President of the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce, Skënder Krasniqi told KosovaPress that the will of the Government of Kosovo to subsidize local producers is lacking, which would affect the reduction of imports from the Serbian state. "This is a result of the support that the Serbian state gives to businesses there, and that their prices are competitive compared to other prices. Whereas, our state is not sufficiently supporting our businesses in certain products that are imported from there, in order to become a much stronger competition and to have an increase of our local production. So, there is a lack of will of the Government of Kosovo for better policies, to be more supportive, subsidizing the producers, our businesses, also, for the increase of employment and for the increase of the welfare of the citizens", stressed Krasniqi.
