Grant for mine clearance in Mitrovica and Gracanica signed
The project for “mine clearance in the municipalities of Mitrovica and Gracanica” was signed today, within the framework of the Japan Assistance Grant for Basic Human Security Projects (GGP), which will ensure the living conditions of 976 residents in these areas.
The project will also promote the economic development of the two regions by enabling communities to have access to agricultural lands and pastures. The total number of direct and indirect beneficiaries is expected to reach more than 17 thousand people.
The contract was signed by Keisuke Yamanaka from the Embassy of Japan in Kosovo and the Director for Kosovo from Norwegian People’s Aid, Claus Nielsen, who is the implementing partner of the project.
Yamanaka said that the goal of this project is for Kosovo to remain landmine-free by 2030.
According to him, this is one of the largest projects that GGP has supported in Kosovo.
He added that 12.13 hectares will be cleared in the village of Bajgora in Mitrovica and 4.35 hectares in Livadje in Gracanica.
