The threat posed by fake news and disinformation is global and affects everyone in society.
This was said today in Mitrovica, during the workshop for secondary school teachers and students, on the topic of 'Misinformation, disinformation and malign information', within the project 'Media education for teachers and students of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities'.
Teachers and students who participated in this workshop, improvised different situations, including news with incorrect information and clarifying their negative effect.Linda Baleta, a lecturer in this project, stated for KosovaPress that the topic addressed today is very important for each individual, because misinformation threatens human society and affects each individual equally.
According to her, these kinds of workshops are necessary for all age groups, especially for young people.
Baleta: The threat of disinformation and propaganda affects every individual"Despite the title of this project, in fact the topic is very important for each individual, because the threat that is coming to the entire human society from disinformation, misinformation and propaganda, affects each individual equally. Therefore, workshops like this one are necessary for all age groups, but especially for young people who are the biggest users of social networks', said Baleta.
Hamide Hyseni from the Roma community, a student of the 11th grade at the "Frang Bardhi" high school, in Mitrovica, saying that disinformation affects everyone without distinction, emphasized that young people have a great need for these kinds of workshops.
Hyseni: Misinformation affects everyone“This kinds of workshops are necessary because this kind of material is not presented in schools, but only in textbooks. As teenagers and young people, we need these kinds of workshops that increase our capacity in different areas, give us knowledge about different approaches and about the things we need in our lives,... Misinformation affects everyone, not just one part of a certain group', emphasized Hyseni.
Xelal Hama, professor of history in the Bosnian language at the "Frang Bardhi" high school in Mitrovica, emphasized too that fake news affects everyone, therefore young people should be educated in order to identify true news from the fake ones.
Hama: Young people must be educated in order to identify fake news"It's a much needed workshop that covers all the elements of contemporary life today, considering that we live a global life, while information is primary... Fake news affects everyone, so all the young people should be educated in order to be able to distinguish the real news from the fake news,' he said.
This seven-month project, which aims to raise the awareness of communities against disinformation, as well as strengthen the role of civil society activists from the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities, has been organized by the KosovaPress News Agency, together with the non-governmental organization 'Young Community' Leaders Center' (YCLC).
