The Serb List has warned that it will turn to the Constitutional Court regarding the split voting for the election of deputy speakers from non-majority communities.
Serb List MP Igor Simić, at a press conference after the failure to elect a deputy speaker of the Assembly from the Serb community, said that this institutional position should have the approval of the majority of Serb MPs. He added that the lottery in the Assembly for the deputy speaker from the Serb community is unconstitutional.
Simić called on MPs from Albanian parties not to vote for unconstitutional decisions, alluding to the non-voting of another Serb community MP, Nenad Rašić.
Although Rašić was elected as an MP from the Serb community in the Assembly, Simić stated that Rašić does not have the support of Serb List MPs nor the Serb population.
“Serb List will file a complaint with the Constitutional Court because the rules have been violated. I take this opportunity to call on MPs from other Albanian parties and communities not to vote for unconstitutional decisions. Everything will remain documented — what they did and how they tried to push Nenad Rašić, at any cost, into the Parliament without the votes of Serbs, using the votes of the Albanian people, to take a position that belongs to the Serb people. Now they are trying to assign him the position of deputy speaker of the Assembly, which does not belong to him, and, on the other hand, he cannot take it according to the rules,” he emphasized.
Serb List proposed MP Slavko Simić for deputy speaker of the Assembly from the Serb community, but he did not receive the necessary support in three consecutive attempts. Consequently, Assembly Speaker Dimal Basha stated that his candidacy is exhausted according to the latest Constitutional Court ruling and decided that the election for deputy speaker of the Assembly should be determined by a lottery, based on the Assembly Rules.
According to the lottery, even Serb community MP Nenad Rašić did not receive the necessary votes to be elected deputy speaker in two attempts, while some MPs from Serb List also failed to secure votes previously.
At the press conference, Simić was more reserved in answering questions regarding Serb List’s connections with a suspect arrested in Croatia for espionage, but he said that none of them know her personally.
On Wednesday, a Croatian citizen and his Serbian girlfriend from Kosovo were arrested in Croatia on suspicion of espionage.
They were remanded in custody by the Split District Court, where the Croatian citizen — who also served as a pilot in KFOR — is suspected of providing information about KFOR troop movements to his Serbian girlfriend, who allegedly passed this information to Serb List.
“Let’s not deviate from the topic, which is extremely important at this moment, because all the rules are being violated. You will certainly receive a response. Neither I nor any of us know this lady, and we want to deny that any of us have any connection with this person,” he said.
