The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) will not take part in the 14:00 session for the election of the president.
Deputy Speaker of the Assembly from PDK, Vlora Çitaku, said they will not participate in what she described as a “dangerous political farce.” She also called on presidential candidate Feride Rushiti to withdraw from the race and announced possible protests.
“She should stop these acts of political violence. This is not an assembly of karate, but an institution of elected representatives of the people. I also sincerely call on the respected Ms. Feride Rushiti to withdraw from this unconstitutional political game of Albin Kurti, which is harmful for the state and for herself. I am honestly sorry that she has agreed to lend her name to a dangerous political farce. As PDK, we value her work in civil society, but today the most important thing she can do for herself and the greatest honor she can give herself is to withdraw from this race. The Constitution, laws, and rules of procedure cannot be interpreted according to daily political interests,” she said.
The majority yesterday initiated procedures for the election of the president, where Feride Rushiti received 64 votes. Following this, Speaker of the Assembly Albulena Haxhiu interrupted the session, which was first continued at 10:00, but was later postponed again to 14:00, as she said, to allow opposition participation.
According to Çitaku, Kurti is knowingly violating the Constitution and becoming a threat to the foundations of the state.
She added that Kurti seeks to place himself above the Constitution and the law, and said this “will not be allowed together with the citizens.”
