Tahiri: Kurti’s government is as big as China

The Kurti III government is one of the largest cabinets in the Western Balkans and as big as China, said the head of the Parliamentary Group of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Besnik Tahiri.

He criticized Prime Minister Albin Kurti at a press conference on Wednesday, citing the large number of ministers and political advisers.

“We are talking about the size of a government that describes a government and fictitious ministers. Accommodation of the ruling party in government. A cabinet that is one of the largest in the Western Balkans and, in comparison to the population, larger than that of China, India, and Pakistan,” he said.

According to him, the government has politically appointed 453 people through the adopted regulation.

“The Prime Minister has up to 49 advisers and staff. Do you understand, there are 50 people including political advisers, external advisers, 15 politically appointed staff who are appointed by the party. Do you remember what was said? The Prime Minister doesn’t need so many advisers… This government has 453 people that can be politically appointed. I am not saying this, but regulation 04-2026 represents the largest size of political cabinets anyone has,” Tahiri added.

Criticism of the Kurti government was also addressed by another AAK deputy, Albana Bytyqi, regarding the lack of female ministers.

“We have a more discriminatory cabinet because out of 21 members today we have only four female ministers. Until yesterday, in campaigns they spoke about women’s rights, and today we have only four female ministers. We have less than 20 percent of the government cabinet. Therefore, I ask the government to respect gender equality,” Bytyqi emphasized.

The head of AAK deputies was also asked about the possibility of new elections, and he expressed confidence that Ramush Haradinaj’s party will achieve a positive result.

“Elections are not the product of AAK’s political actions. In fact, we have been sidelined on this issue. What I can say with full responsibility is that whenever the elections come, AAK will have a better result. Kosovo does not need elections, but it is the arrogance of this Prime Minister that has put us in this situation, as he wanted to also take the position of President,” Tahiri declared.
