“Serbia is obstructing the dialogue,” Hyland: Kosovo should be part of NATO

Serbia is obstructing the progress of dialogue with Kosovo, as it benefits from Russia and China by doing so, said Christopher Hyland, a supporter of the Albanian cause in the United States of America, on Friday. He added that Kosovo should be an important part of NATO.

Following his meeting with the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, Hyland also spoke about U.S,-Kosovo relations.

He emphasized the importance of Kosovo becoming part of NATO.

Meanwhile, regarding Kosovo’s involvement in the dialogue with Serbia, Hyland said that the U.S. should allow a mature democracy, namely Kosovo, to move forward toward an agreement with Serbia.

Serbia has not implemented the Brussels Agreement and the annex to the 2023 Ohrid Agreement. Kosovo has accused Serbia of obstructing the implementation process and supporting illegal structures in the north of the country. Meanwhile, Serbia has criticized Kosovo for what it claims is a refusal to establish the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities.

Despite pressure from the European Union and the United States, both parties have shown little political will to take concrete steps in implementing the agreed obligations, especially following the terrorist attack in Banjska, Zveçan.

Christopher Hyland, a supporter of the Albanian cause in the U.S., said that Serbia is continuously obstructing progress in the dialogue.

He also spoke about the financial crisis of Kosovo’s public broadcaster, RTK, as a result of the ongoing political deadlock.
