The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development has allocated €77 million for farmers in Kosovo as part of the 2026 agricultural budget.
The Minister of this department, Armend Muja, said that this €77 million package also includes agricultural processing entities, farms, farmers, and market stabilization measures.
At a press conference, Muja also announced a new architecture of agricultural support, which he said is based on three main pillars.
“The new agricultural support architecture includes three main pillars: the Direct Payments Programme worth €59 million, the Rural Development Programme worth €10 million, and the Market Stabilisation Measures Programme worth €8 million,” Muja said.
He also provided details on the direct payments pillar.
“First, under the direct payments pillar, around €20 million will be allocated for cultivated land. So, €34 million will be linked to production-based schemes. Not only cultivated areas, but importantly, and for the first time, the schemes will be directly linked to production to promote performance. There is also redistribution support. For the first time, small and medium farms will receive greater support, as well as a new scheme for farmers entering these programmes for the first time,” he added.
Muja further stated that a new scheme called “eco-schemes” has been introduced, which supports organic farming and environmentally friendly agricultural practices.
He also said that €10 million has been allocated for rural development, with a focus on horticulture and intensive horticulture. Fruit production will also be supported, encouraging the planting and cultivation of fruit trees.
Support will also be provided for milk production, meat production on farms, cereal crops, and viticulture.
The Minister emphasized that farmers need support in processing their basic products and preparing for export.
“Our farmers need support to process basic products and, in the future, to prepare for export. For this reason, we have introduced new measures to support this growth with higher standards, which is important, to support the processing of fruits and vegetables, as well as other animal products,” Muja concluded.
The Minister of Agriculture said that never before has such a large budget been allocated in support of farmers.
