Osmani: I hope we will have a government with a full constitutional mandate as soon as possible

President Vjosa Osmani said she hopes that a government with a full constitutional mandate will be formed as soon as possible. She stated that she cannot interfere in coalition negotiations but added that “it is in the hands of the political parties, which I hope will find common ground.”

Osmani made these remarks after visiting the Oncology Clinic, where 640 oncology packages were donated to breast cancer patients.

The leader of Lëvizja Vëtëvendosje was mandated by President Osmani on October 10 to form a new executive, following the constitution of the Kosovo Assembly on the same day.

To elect Kurti and his government before the Assembly, at least 61 of the 120 deputies’ votes are required.

“Despite my continuous efforts to have the Assembly constituted, that issue depended on the will of the political parties and the deputies. Finally, the process was completed, and we have a fully constituted Assembly. The day after, I immediately mandated the acting Prime Minister, who was nominated by the party that came first in the February 9 elections. Since his nomination, 15 days have passed. Naturally, deadlines are running, but coalition negotiations take place only among political parties or deputies. These are discussions between political parties, in which, as president, I should not interfere. Therefore, I cannot know to what extent these negotiations have progressed, but for more information, the involved political parties can provide details. I very much hope that Kosovo will soon have a government with a full constitutional mandate, because, as you know, the caretaker government has limited powers according to the law, which hinders not only the government’s work but the functioning of the state as a whole,” Osmani declared.

The head of state added that having a government as soon as possible will also allow reforms and other important decisions in the country to move forward.

“The sooner we have a government with a full constitutional mandate, the sooner reforms can be advanced, and we can have a comprehensive budget that prioritizes the health of our citizens. We will also be able to implement other decisions delayed by the caretaker government, which are in the interest of the citizens and the country. When this will happen, as I said, depends on the political parties, which I hope will find common ground, and the citizens of Kosovo will have a government with a full mandate, in accordance with the will expressed in the last elections,” Osmani added.

Recall that on October 10, the Kosovo Assembly also elected the deputy speaker from the Serbian community.

With 71 votes in favor, Nenad Rashiq was elected deputy speaker of the Kosovo Assembly from the ranks of the Serbian community.
