Mobile mammography crosses the bridge, free checkups for women in the north

As part of the activities of “Pink October,” a mobile mammography unit has been set up in the northern part of Mitrovica, near the main bridge, where women can undergo free breast screenings on October 21 and 22, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Radiology technician Shqipe Llapjani told KosovaPress that many citizens are showing interest.

“For the moment, things are going well. Most women were not informed, but they are asking questions and showing interest. So far, ten screenings have been done, mostly from the Serbian community,” said Llapjani.

She added that the activity will continue in other regions as well.

“The day after tomorrow we will be in Zvečan, Leposavić, and Zubin Potok. Last year we had a lot of participation, and we expect it to be just as good this year,” said Llapjani.

The technician also noted that the activity is drawing interest from women in the southern part as well.

“We are expecting more participation tomorrow from Albanian women, as interest is also coming from women from the southern part,” she said.

Rrezarta Prekazi, the health officer of the Municipality of North Mitrovica, told KosovaPress that the main goal of the “Pink October” activities is to raise awareness among women about the importance of early detection of breast cancer through information and free screenings with the mobile mammography unit.

“Our aim is for every woman to have equal access to preventive services, regardless of where she lives or her socio-economic status. The free screenings are available to all women living in our municipality, with special emphasis on women over the age of 40,” said Prekazi.

She added that the activity will continue even after the end of “Pink October,” through preventive campaigns and free screenings, with the goal of improving the health of women and the community as a whole.

This activity is organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and aims to promote women’s health through the early detection of breast diseases.
