LDK presidency member and former Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti has criticized the Government of Kosovo regarding the American gas project and the country’s energy policies.
In a public statement, Hoti raised three questions he said are essential for citizens and political debate in Kosovo. He asked why Prime Minister Albin Kurti has rejected the American gas project while countries in the region are joining this strategic initiative, why no new energy capacities have been built during six years of governance, and who benefits from Kosovo remaining dependent on energy imports.
Hoti said the gas project is not only an economic issue but is directly connected to Kosovo’s geopolitical orientation, energy security, and relations with the United States of America.
He also criticized the opposition, saying this issue is often addressed only during election campaigns, while adding that such causes should be at the center of political engagement.
According to Hoti, grounds for democratic protest have also included Kosovo’s suspension from the “Defender Europe 23” military exercise in 2023, as well as the suspension of the Kosovo–US strategic dialogue in September 2025.
In conclusion, Hoti said that the results of the latest elections reflect, in his view, a lack of vision, state-focused policy, and political courage.
