Acting President and Speaker of the Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, said that former US Congressman Eliot Engel has left an indelible mark on the history of Kosovo.
During the commemorative session of the Assembly held in honor of the American congressman, Eliot Engel, Haxhiu said that he strongly raised his voice for Kosovo against the Serbo-Yugoslav regime.
She also said that Engel contributed to the recognition of Kosovo’s independence.
“Indelible marks on the history of Kosovo. Today we honour and remember a loyal friend, but also a just American legislator, who in our most difficult days, together with many senators and congressmen, strongly raised his voice against the violation of our rights, repression and persecution by the Serbo-Yugoslav regime,” she said.
The former US congressman was one of the strongest supporters of Kosovo. His unwavering support for Kosovo over the decades has made him a well-known figure in the country.
Kosovo has named a street and a highway in his honour and has even issued a postage stamp featuring his image. /KosovaPress/
