“Don’t stop production,” businesses start protest against the decision of the Energy Regulatory Authority

The unified protest of businesses, workers, and citizens against the ruling issued by the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) regarding the electricity free market, which came into effect on June 1, has begun, as reported by KosovaPress.

“Don’t stop our production,” “Imports thank ERO for the help,” “Don’t stop economic development,” are some of the protesters’ slogans.

The Chairman of the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce (OEK), Lulzim Rafuna, said they have gathered against an injustice being done to the country’s businesses. He demands a transition period and a support package to help businesses so that this decision does not lead to business slowdown or closure.

He is asking that the ERO cancel this decision within ten days.

The Chairman of the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Skender Krasniqi, stated that the government recently allocated over 30 million euros for public sector salaries and, according to him, “the private sector needs just as much to keep working.”

The protest organized by the chambers of commerce and industry in Kosovo started at 11:00 AM in Skenderbeu Square in Prishtina and will last until 12:00 PM.

The protesters will continue their march toward the ERO offices.

A large number of people have been seen present at this protest.

On May 29, businesses held a protest expressing dissatisfaction with the process of businesses entering the electricity free market, blocking entrances and exits in Prishtina.
