With 73 votes in favor, 30 against, and three abstentions, Dimal Basha has been elected Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo. Vetëvendosje once again nominated Basha for speaker, where he also received votes from several MPs of the Democratic Party of Kosovo.
Vetëvendosje MP Arbërie Nagavci nominated Dimal Basha for the position of Speaker.
“Vetëvendosje, as the winner of the elections, in exercising its right and responsibility to nominate a candidate for speaker, has already made five nominations of five elected MPs for the position. In this spirit, today we continue with the proposal of MP Dimal Basha for Speaker. Dimal Basha, elected three times as an MP of the Assembly of Kosovo, in addition to his work and political activity in the Republic of Kosovo, has also lived, studied, and worked in the United States. In New York, he completed higher education in international criminal law and a Master’s degree in international relations. He worked in the office of Congressman and great friend of Albanians, Eliot Engel, as well as gained professional experience as a data analyst at the U.S. Federal Court. He also holds U.S. citizenship,” said Nagavci.
The chair of the constitutive session, Avni Dehari, confirmed the election of the Speaker.
“Seventy-three MPs voted in favor, 30 voted against, and three abstained. I confirm that the Assembly has elected Dimal Basha as Speaker of the Assembly. I wish the Speaker success and productive work in the ninth legislature,” Dehari stated.
