A Bulgarian otorhinolaryngology specialist, Mario Miklov, has highly praised the organization of the 14th Balkan Congress of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery in Pristina, emphasizing the importance of scientific and professional cooperation among countries in the region.
Miklov said this is his first time visiting Kosovo and thanked the organizers for their hospitality and for the organization of the congress.
“I am here for the first time and I would like to thank my dear colleagues from Kosovo, especially from Pristina, as well as the president of the congress, Dukagjin Spanca. This is very important because of the friendship and scientific connections between colleagues, doctors, and universities in the Balkans. This is a reflection of medicine in the Balkan region in the field of ENT,” he said.
Speaking about the topics covered at the congress, the Bulgarian specialist highlighted the sleep medicine session, describing it as one of the most important fields in modern medicine.
Yesterday we had a very good session on sleep medicine. Some of my colleagues are surgeons specialized in this field. We discussed the future of sleep medicine, diagnostic and preventive systems, the new patient profile, as well as new treatments, both conservative and surgical. Sleep medicine is very important today, not only in the Balkans or Europe, but also in the United States and Australia. It is important because many serious road accidents happen due to sleep-related problems, when drivers face such difficulties during travel, often with very severe consequences,” he said.
Miklov said the congress is addressing important topics and added that both formal and informal communication among lecturers and participants is a valuable opportunity for exchanging knowledge and professional experience, especially for young doctors and academic staff.
“There are very interesting sessions, not only in sleep medicine but also in laryngology and rhinology, and formal and informal communication with speakers is very important for the new generation of doctors, as well as for senior professors and associate professors. Friendship is also very important in the Balkans. We live in difficult times, not only in the Balkans but also in the Middle East and Europe, and we doctors feel that we are the ones who bring good ideas, friendship, and brotherhood,” he said.
