Deputy of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lutfi Haziri, stated that they will not withdraw from their position in the Kosovo Assembly, despite 24 unsuccessful attempts to constitute the ninth legislature following the parliamentary elections held on February 9.
Haziri pointed the finger at the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV), Albin Kurti, saying he is primarily responsible for the blockade in the Assembly, because, according to him, Kurti is not working towards compromise and reaching a political agreement.
He said that reaching a political agreement is beyond urgent.
“For me and for LDK, it’s not about a specific name but about the principle so that the constitution can be finalized as soon as possible. A political agreement is beyond urgent because Kosovo is ultimately in a political crisis, which, in the absence of the functioning of both the Assembly and the executive, makes progress impossible. The maintenance and caretaking of the government, which already has problems since neither the deputies nor the ministers are legitimate or properly mandated, causes this country to be on pause,” he said.
Speaking about Kurti’s statements that parties in the Assembly are not voting for Haxhiu because she is a woman, he said such a claim does not hold, since LDK has voted twice for female presidents — former President Atifete Jahjaga and current President Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu.
“LDK has voted for two female presidents, but according to a political agreement. In both cases, LDK’s word was not held, but we voted. In the first case for Mrs. Jahjaga and Osmani, we contributed our support. I don’t know where else he can find examples, we have put forward names like Nekibe Kelmendi and Edita Tahiri, who have been leading ladies. To come at this time and say that political parties in the Assembly have issues with the representation of a woman is bad and serious, even very far off with this matter,” he said.
