The Special Prosecution of Kosovo has filed an indictment in absentia for war crimes against L.D. and V.O. at the Basic Court in Prishtina.
According to the announcement, the defendants are accused that during the period 1998–1999 in Gjakova, acting in co-perpetration with other members of the Serbian police and military forces, they violated the rules of international law by participating in killings, mistreatment, arrests, theft, and destruction of property belonging to the civilian population of Albanian nationality.
According to the indictment, on March 25 and 26, 1999, on “Tahir Efendiu” street, during an operation of Serbian police forces in which the defendants also took part as police officers, one civilian was killed and six civilians of Albanian nationality were mistreated.
There is well-grounded suspicion that the defendants, acting in co-perpetration, surrounded the house of the injured party N.K., where N.K., M.M., S.G., B.G., B.Sh., A.C., and Q.Sh. were located. They were physically and psychologically abused, forced to load into the police truck all aid materials stored in the humanitarian association “Mother Teresa,” and then forcibly put into a truck and taken to the Gjakova police station.
At the police station, the victims were separated into different cells, where they were kept for 24 hours without food, water, or medical assistance, and were continuously beaten and mistreated by the defendants and other Serbian police officers using rubber batons, kicks, and punches.
The detainee M.M., on the day he was taken out of his cell, March 26, 1999, was found killed near the Taliq Bridge in Gjakova.
