Abdixhiku says he will not meet Kurti: The process of electing the president has been compromised

The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, has said there will be no more meetings with Prime Minister Albin Kurti regarding the issue of electing the president.

With only a few hours left before the deadline to elect the country’s head of state, Abdixhiku said that a day earlier he had learned that while Kurti was holding talks with the opposition, plans were being made to blame them for the failure to elect the president.

“The president cannot be elected with unilateral candidacies. So no, we have neither agreed to such a thing nor has such a thing ever been requested. We agreed that there should be no unilateral actions and that there should be consensus; this is the path. Then, in truth, the process has now been compromised, because last night I understood from statements by the President’s Office that while we were in talks, they had gone out and started looking for ways to blame the opposition. On one hand you are at the table with someone, and on the other hand you are making scenarios to blame them. This is a serious compromise of the process, therefore I see no reason for meetings,” he said in a statement to TV Dukagjini, which he also published on his Facebook page, KosovaPress reports.
