Abdixhiku addresses Ursula von der Leyen regarding the measures against Kosovo

The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) has called for the immediate removal of the punitive measures imposed by the European Union against the Republic of Kosovo, describing them as unjustified and disconnected from the current political and institutional reality in the country.

The leader of the party and candidate for prime minister, Lumir Abdixhiku, through a letter addressed to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has requested the immediate lifting of the European Union’s punitive measures against the Republic of Kosovo.

“LDK assesses that the continuation of these measures is unjustified and does not reflect the current political and institutional developments in the country. The European Union’s measures are producing direct consequences for the citizens of Kosovo and are harming state institutions. Local governance in the northern municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo has already been transferred, and the criterion set by the EU has been fulfilled. These measures have directly harmed Kosovo and its citizens, not politicians. As a result, a significant number of important development projects and investments have remained blocked and unrealized, hindering economic development and the improvement of public services. The Democratic League of Kosovo calls on the European Union to take a decision to fully lift the punitive measures against the Republic of Kosovo, in accordance with the principles of justice, proportionality, and partnership,” the letter sent to Ursula von der Leyen states.

It further emphasizes that the Republic of Kosovo deserves fair treatment and concrete support on its European path.
