Abdixhiku: A classic party agreement or consensus on a presidential candidate is needed

The leader of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, described his one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Albin Kurti as constructive and substantive.

Abdixhiku told the media that choosing the president requires either a classic political agreement between parties or a consensus on a candidate for the country’s top office.

“It was an inter-party meeting discussing the upcoming selection of the President of Kosovo. Not only that—we talked about everything: Kosovo’s foreign policy, security issues… There are fewer than nine days left to elect the president. The general agreement is that there are only two paths forward: either a political consensus among the country’s actors, which must be built in the next nine days, or a classic political agreement between parties. In both cases, at least two-thirds of MPs’ votes are required. We agreed to meet in the coming days to review one of these two options,” he said.

Abdixhiku added that the LDK will not join the government.

“A political agreement implies an understanding on the president’s election. At this stage, I don’t think there is interest, nor is there motivation in that direction. Everything remains open within a political agreement, and the consensus is natural,” he added.

A day earlier, Prime Minister Kurti also met with PDK leader Bedri Hamza to discuss the presidential election.
