Today marks 30 years since the first attack of enemy forces against the Jashari family in Prekaz. After strong resistance from the Jashari family, Serbian forces were forced to withdraw. In the second attack on the Jashari family on 22 January 1998, two members of this family were injured.
On March 5, 1998, Serbian forces again surrounded the house where Adem Jashari and his family were staying. The house was sorrounded with tanks and heavy artillery. In clashes that lasted until March 7, Serbian forces massacred over 50 members of the Jashari family, including women and children. After his death, Adem Jashari became the symbol of the Kosovo war and the country’s independence.
