The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, confirmed that a contingent of Italian carabinieri forces have arrived in Kosovo as reinforcement for the EULEX police unit.

In a tweet, Borrell wrote that EULEX will fulfill its duty to guarantee stability.

"In these tense times, the EU Rule of Law Mission (EULEX) fulfills its duty to guarantee stability: the Gendarmerie from the Carabinieri have arrived tonight to temporarily reinforce the EULEX-Kosovo Police Unit. EULEX will continue to support a safe environment", wrote Borrell on Twitter.

The situation in the north of the country has become tense after the beginning of the implementation of the decision of the Government of Kosovo for the registration of vehicles with RKS license plates for Serbian citizens who have illegal Serbian license plates.

However, the state leaders think that the developments in the north have nothing to do with license plates, but with the rejection of the Franco-German plan by Belgrade, which aims to camouflage this by inciting riots.
