14 years since the bloody February 10 protest
Two Vetevendosje Movement activists, Arben Xheladini and Mon Balaj, were killed on February 10 by Romanian UNMIK Police 14 years ago while protesting Kosovo's negotiations with Serbia and the Ahtisaari Package. As thousands of protesters opposed the Ahtisaari package, the protest escalated as the fences in the middle of the square were removed. It was the Romanian UNMIK police that reacted violently, in which deadly weapons were used.
In addition to killing two activists, there were also many injured. Meanwhile, the tear gas that has been used has never been seen before, not even until today. The tear gas smel was not removed for five days from the squares of Prishtina. CDHRF has demanded justice for the victims of February 10, and has demanded that the victims of Arben Xheladini and Mon Balaj be accepted as political victims, rehabilitated and gain the status they deserve, while their families should gain the right enjoyed by families of civilian war victims. The CDHRF also reacted about the injured of this protest, saying that they should be compensated morally and materially, in accordance with the law.
