‘We talk in vain as long as they kill us’, a protest is held in Peja

With the motto “We talk in vain as long as they kill us”, a protest was held in Peja as a sign of revolt against the murder of Gjyljeta Ukella, from where a call was made to the state institutions of justice for greater treatment and responsibility in cases of violence against all women.

The march was organized by civil society organizations in Peja and started from the city center and continued to the facilities of the Police, the Basic Court, and the Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Peja, where the protesters demanded an urgent stop to gender-based violence. Family members of the deceased, Gjyljeta Ukella, also participated in the protest.

The organizer of this peaceful protest called on the state institutions to provide the children of the deceased with all the necessary services.

Another participant in the protest, Veton Muja, emphasized that the silence of today’s protest will deafen the state institutions.

Meanwhile, Vlora Latifi, a participant in the protest, said that all citizens should demand accountability from the state because that is where the responsibility lies.

Also, Shemsie Seferi, participant in the protest, emphasized that the police do not take cases of violence against women seriously and that is the reason why they are happening.

Seferi called on all women to report cases of violence and not to live with murderers.
