Faton Klinaku and Nuredin Selmani have pleaded not guilty to threatening the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti.
In the reading of the indictment, the special prosecutor, Bekim Kodraliu, said that Faton Klinaku seriously and publicly threatened Prime Minister Albin Kurti in 2023.
“The defendant Faton Klinaku seriously and publicly threatened him through the social network Facebook by posting. After the reactions of public opinion, the defendant repeated a threatening post. The defendant seriously threatened to kill Prime Minister Albin Kurti,” he said.
Also for the defendant Nuredin Selmani, the special prosecutor said that he “seriously and publicly threatened [Kurti]” through the social network Facebook.
After the initial hearing, the defendant Faton Klinaku said that he will file a request to dismiss the indictment. He said that he has not committed any criminal offense, as he is accused of threatening the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti.
Faton Klinaku from OVL-UCK said that the post still appears on his Facebook account.
“It’s good that it was a confrontation because you know that I myself requested that confrontation, you know that I myself requested that confrontation. As for the indictment, I consider that there is no criminal offense. And my post that has been repeated still appears, two years ago that I posted on Facebook and I will not remove it because there is no criminal offense. We have fought as members of the UÇK, we have fought to have the state, to have our justice system, therefore it is the obligation of every citizen to answer… The judicial process will now continue, through the lawyer we will make the request to dismiss the indictment”, said Klinaku.
Meanwhile, the other defendant, Nuredin Selmani, who pleaded not guilty before the trial panel, said “Albin Kurti should not be afraid of me”.
“Albin Kurti should not be afraid of me, but should be afraid of history that one day will perhaps condemn the history of the Albanian people. Therefore, one more thing should be mentioned, that this ‘scoundrel’ should be reported every time to the Prosecutor’s Office, to answer to the Prosecutor’s Office because he should be held responsible for the state’s money, where this people’s money is going… I consider myself innocent, we’ll see”, said Selmani.
The acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, was also present at the initial hearing.
