The opening of the main bridge over the Iber river is not considered to pose any danger to the Serbian community in North Mitrovica. On the day when the last tests are being carried out for the opening of the bridge for vehicle traffic, local government and security experts assess that it is legitimate to open the bridge and ensure freedom of movement, but they also underline the need for coordination with international allies, especially with United States. On the other hand, the Kosova Police say that whenever the decision is taken to open the Ibri bridge, they will take the necessary measures, while emphasizing the cooperation with KFOR and EULEX.
The former Minister of Local Government Administration, Sadri Ferati, tells KosovaPress that it is legitimate for the bridge over the Iber River to be opened for traffic, but care must be taken that this decision does not create new tensions in the north.
He underlines the need for greater coordination with international allies in order to avoid tensions in that area.
Meanwhile, security expert Arben Dashevci emphasizes that the bridge should be opened for traffic, as it does not pose any danger to the Serbian community in the north.
Meanwhile, the deputy director of the Kosova Police for the northern region, Veton Elshani, told KosovaPress that when the decision is made to open the Iber bridge for traffic, the necessary measures will be taken.
He adds that the cooperation with KFOR and EULEX is very good.
In North Mitrovica, on Thursday, a debate was held about the opening of the bridge over the Iber river, which is opposed by the local Serbs and the international community.
The representatives of this municipality and those of the Government of Kosovo participated in the debate, but there were a small number of Serbian citizens.
