The opening of the subject of the organization of snap elections, the opposition considers a trick of the prime minister of Kosovo, to divert attention from the process of Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe. According to the opposition, the Government of Kosovo cannot influence the vote without fulfilling the condition set by the Parliamentary Assembly.

The MP of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Xhavit Haliti, has said that without the realization of the condition set by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the statements from the Government of Kosovo cannot influence the vote in favor of our country’s membership in the Council of Europe.

While the MP of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Pal Lekaj, in a statement for KosovaPress, said that Prime Minister Albin Kurti opened the topic of snap elections to avoid the discussion of Kosovo’s departure from the agenda of the Committee of Ministers where one could vote for admission to this organization.

Lekaj demands that the Kurti government resign and then dissolve the parliament.

Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe is not expected to be on the agenda of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe today, where it would be possible to vote for its admission to this organization.

On Thursday, the executive has sent a letter to the Council of Europe to inform it that it is preparing the draft statute for the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities (ASM), to be submitted for consideration by the Constitutional Court.

The letter emphasizes that “there is a real risk that without decisive progress in the association, Kosovo’s application to the Council of Europe will not receive sufficient support from the member states”.

Meanwhile, the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has not been consulted and agreed regarding the Government’s letter of commitment for drafting and sending the draft statute of the association of municipalities with a Serbian majority to the Constitutional Court.
