President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed reports of shelling in his country. He said Russia had attacked border guards and some Ukrainian infrastructure.
Meanwhile, delivering a video address to the nation from Moscow, Vladimir Putin called on Ukrainian soldiers in the east to hand over their weapons. Russian troops have also been seen entering Ukraine from the Belarusian border.
