Power outages return

Power outages return

On Tuesday, parts of the country once again faced power outages. The Electric Energy Distribution Company – KESCO – announced that the outages returned due to harsh winter conditions, KosovaPress reports.

“This has occurred as a result of low temperatures and a significant increase in electricity consumption due to increased use for heating,” KESCO stated in its announcement.

The statement also noted that Kosovo’s power system is currently operating under difficult conditions, while local energy production is limited, forcing an increased need for imports. “However, the possibilities for securing energy from imports are limited due to the technical conditions of the power system in which Kosovo operates, making it difficult to fully meet demand at all times.”

KESCO emphasized that it is utilizing all available options to secure energy, including long-term contracts and purchases on short-term markets, but during periods like this, fully meeting demand is impossible. For this reason, the company has appealed to consumers to save electricity by taking concrete measures to reduce usage, especially during peak hours.

“Power reductions are necessary to maintain the stability of the power system and to ensure a continuous supply of energy for all citizens. This is a challenging period, but we remain committed to fulfilling our obligations to consumers,” the announcement stated.

To ease the situation, KESCO has called for cooperation from citizens and institutions to save energy and help maintain the stability of the system. The company is also working closely with relevant authorities to minimize the potential impact of outages on citizens’ daily lives.

Additionally, KESCO has asked for the understanding and cooperation of citizens and appealed for increased caution in electricity use.
