On Wednesday, he set out on foot for Tirana with the sole purpose of showing strong support for the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) who are on trial in The Hague. KLA veteran Agim Pllashniku walked for more than two days to reach the Albanian capital, where a nationwide protest will be held today at 5:00 PM.
Speaking to KosovaPress about the journey, Pllashniku said he decided to walk to Albania just to show that people can do a lot for the freedom fighters.
He stated that the former KLA leaders are being held unjustly in The Hague.
“My entire journey was on foot. I stopped in three places, rested for two hours each time, and then continued to Tirana. Today I arrived in Tirana to support our freedom fighters who are in The Hague and are being accused while innocent, held in detention for five years… I wanted to come in this way to show that we are capable of doing even more for our freedom fighters. I chose this form, and I believe it is the most appropriate. I also believe that the entire Albanian people, when it comes to freedom fighters, would do even more,” he said.
KLA veteran Agim Pllashniku says there is no justice in The Hague, adding that the former fighters are being treated unjustly.
“There is no justice. They are being accused and burdened with charges from Serbia. There is no justice in The Hague. They are facing great injustice. Their rights are being violated by being held in detention for five years without any evidence—only with false evidence from Serbia. This is a great injustice,” the KLA veteran declared.
The protest in Tirana is organized by the Organization of Veterans of the Kosovo Liberation Army (OVL-KLA). It has been announced that over 60 buses have departed from Kosovo today.
Another protest took place in The Hague on September 14, one day before the hearing of the first defense witness, former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State James Rubin.
The protest was held near the Special Court building, with around 10,000 Albanians from around the world in attendance. Additionally, the OVL-KLA organized a protest on August 7 in Pristina against what they view as the injustice being done by the Special Court in The Hague.
