The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, during the flag-raising ceremony, said that the sacrifice to reach this day has been centuries in the making.
According to her, the sacrifices of generations paved Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic path.
“I wish all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo a happy 18th anniversary of the Independence of our sovereign and independent state. It is a day when we all come together. First and foremost, to celebrate this anniversary of our young state, which is now entering an age of maturity, and at the same time to remember all those who sacrificed everything so that we could enjoy the state today. Naturally, the sacrifice to reach this point has been centuries in the making. Often we focus on the recent years, the ’80s and ’90s, but in fact, it was entire generations who gave everything so that we could enjoy an independent Kosovo today. We express our deepest respect for all who contributed. We express our deepest respect for the path and contribution of our historic president, the founding father and architect of Kosovo’s independence, Ibrahim Rugova, for the sacrifice of the Jashari family, led by Commander Adem Jashari, for thousands of martyrs and KLA heroes, for all those who gave their lives, their effort, and made sacrifices so that today we can all enjoy our state together. Naturally, it is this sacrifice that has paved our way forward, strengthening our state toward the Euro-Atlantic path, in this family where we have always had our place,” Osmani said.
