The non-governmental organization “Briga” is the only organization from the Serb community in the Municipality of Peja. This organization was established in 2002. The motive for its establishment was the difficult position of women, says the director of this organization, Miroslava Simonovic.
“Our organization was established in 2002, seeing the difficult position of women in our community, I decided to establish an association and start working with women from the Serb community. This organization is the only Serbian organization in the Peja region”, said Simonovic.
She adds that the beginning was very difficult, but later they had benefits.
“In the beginning when we started, we only worked with women from our community in a psychosocial program, providing them with materials for handicrafts. With the help of KFOR we organized exhibitions and women could earn something for themselves and their families with these handicrafts”, said Simonovic.
According to her, after two years of work, there was a desire and need for expansion, for cooperation with other communities.
“We were looking to join other organizations working in Peja, such as the Albanian and Bosniak communities”, said Simonovic.
At first it was difficult, but over time a friendship has been established between the communities through work and cooperation, says the director of the organization.
“Over time, a circle of friendship was established and the women were happy to work together”, said Miroslavka Simonovic.
This organization is currently working on two projects, one with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Kosovo, and one supported by the Municipality of Peja.
