The Basic Court in Gjakova has approved the request of the Basic Prosecutor’s Office, ordering a one-month pre-trial detention for the suspect with the initials N.Z., on suspicion of committing the criminal offenses of “aggravated murder” and “unauthorized possession, control, or handling of weapons.”
The Prosecutor’s Office also provided details regarding the killing that occurred on March 16, 2026, around 05:20, on “Vëllezërit Frashëri” Street in Gjakova.
It is stated that the killing, which took place in a local establishment, is suspected to have followed a dispute, where the accused allegedly fired a gun at the victim with the initials R.B., who, as a result of the injuries sustained, died near the scene.
“The Basic Court in Gjakova has approved the request of the Basic Prosecutor’s Office of Gjakova, ordering a one (1) month pre-trial detention for the accused N.Z., due to reasonable suspicion that he committed the criminal offenses of aggravated murder and unauthorized possession, control, or handling of weapons. According to the Prosecutor’s request, among other things, it is stated that on 16.03.2026 at 05:20 in Gjakova, on ‘Vëllezërit Frashëri’ Street, precisely in the establishment ‘M.P.’, the accused intentionally deprived the now-deceased R.B. of life, while also endangering the life of the injured E.M. and other persons present at the scene. On the day in question, while the accused was with E.M. and others at the scene, he allegedly shot several times with his TT-type pistol at R.B., who as a result of the shots to different parts of his body, died near the scene,” the statement reads.
The statement also notes that the shots endangered the lives of other people present in the establishment, while the injured person with the initials E.M. suffered bodily injuries and was taken for treatment to the Regional Hospital in Gjakova.
“Furthermore, as a result of the shooting, the accused endangered the lives of others. The injured E.M. sustained bodily injuries and was taken to the emergency department of the Regional Hospital ‘Isa Grezda’ in Gjakova for medical treatment, while the accused fled the scene. The preliminary procedure judge, Samedin Cena, last night, after holding the hearing, assessed that the legal conditions for ordering pre-trial detention for the accused were met. With this decision, the accused N.Z. will be held in pre-trial detention for a duration of one (1) month, counted from the date of arrest on March 16, 2026, until April 16, 2026,” the statement adds.
The parties have the right to appeal this decision to the Court of Appeals of Kosovo.
