The Mayor of Prishtina, Përparim Rama, has accused the acting government led by Albin Kurti of blocking the capital for political reasons. He made the statement on Thursday after the Inspectorate for Cultural Heritage (ICH) stopped works at the “Urban Island” project in Prishtina.
Regarding the works that were halted yesterday, Rama said that there was a permit for their continuation.
Rama also called on the Prosecution to take action, announcing that a criminal complaint will be filed with the institution.
According to him, the blockade in the capital is unlawful.
“Unfortunately, once again our projects are being blocked, preventing 30,000 residents from safely moving from the Arbëria area to the city center. Who is bothered by these works? The government continues to block the capital for purely political reasons, while at the same time giving permits to the private sector—what hypocrites. We have completed the project, we have designed it, we have continued the works, and they come and block the capital in an unlawful manner,” Rama said.
According to Rama, the Ministry of Culture has no legal basis to stop the works.
Despite the suspension, Rama said the municipality will continue works in this area and in other blocked sections.
“I will not allow, as mayor, more than half a million citizens to be blocked by people who are incompetent and do not wish well for this city and country. I call on the Prosecution to take immediate action, for all these saboteurs to be brought to justice. They have no legal basis, they rely on documents that do not exist… we are continuing with the work and we will continue, they cannot stop us. We will submit it immediately,” Rama said.
He added that the same issue is also occurring with George Bush Square.
