Lajcak’s mandate as a dialogue facilitator is considered a failure

The four-year work of the Slovak diplomat, Mirsolav Lajcak, as facilitator of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue is considered unsuccessful and failed. Four months before ending his mandate as dialogue facilitator, Lajcak is criticized for bias and incorrect approach to dialogue. Experts of the dialogue process say that during his mandate there was no normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, despite the reaching of the Brussels agreement and the Ohrid annex.

Political analyst, Fidan Ukaj, tells KosovaPress that Lajcak’s work has been a failure in dialogue.

University professor Dorajet Imeri also considers Lajcak’s role in the dialogue unsuccessful.

According to him, the Brussels agreement and the Ohrid Annex are not the merits of Lajcak, as they were reached with the direct involvement of France and Germany.

While it is not known who will succeed Lajcak, analyst Ukaj says that the future mediator in the dialogue must have the trust of both parties and must come from a place that recognizes Kosovo.

Lajcak is expected to finish his work as a facilitator of the dialogue at the end of August, after he has been appointed as the EU ambassador in Switzerland. Lajcak had assumed the task as dialogue facilitator in 2020.
