The Central Labour Inspectorate carried out an inspection operation today in the northern municipalities of Kosovo as part of checks on the implementation of working conditions and safety measures in the construction sector, reports KosovaPress. According to the inspectorate, several shortcomings related to workplace organization, safety, and documentation were identified.
One of the inspections was conducted in the “Miners’ Hill” neighborhood in North Mitrovica, where inspectors verified the conditions at a construction site and the employer’s compliance with legal obligations.
Acting head of the Inspection Division for the Mitrovica Region, Laura Mustafa-Berisha, said the operation is part of the inspection plan defined by the Ministry and that today’s focus was on the North Mitrovica region.
“In continuation of the planned inspections under the Ministry’s decision and the nationwide construction inspection campaign, today we have been assigned to the North Mitrovica region, where several locations that we previously verified and identified will be inspected. In addition to these locations, other sites will also be inspected if inspectors encounter any activity during their monitoring,” said Mustafa-Berisha.
During the inspection at the construction site in “Miners’ Hill,” inspector Fatmir Halili said several deficiencies related to workplace organization, safety, and documentation were identified.
“The organization of the construction site needs to be improved. Power cables, waste, and access to the building are three remarks we are making in this case. As for other issues, we can see that the fences are properly installed. Warning signs should be placed from the moment construction begins in areas where there is danger, because this is your legal obligation. Regarding documentation, I am leaving a list of required documents. I have also spoken with the supervisor, Bujar. He has three days to complete those documents and submit them to the Labour Inspectorate,” Halili said.
Recently, several workplace deaths have occurred in Kosovo, mainly in the construction sector.
