Kurti: Vucic’s provocative threats endanger stability, EU and NATO should respond decisively

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated on Monday that the statements made by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic are threatening, destabilizing, and entirely unacceptable. He emphasized that official Belgrade is clearly demonstrating its support for inciting tensions and spreading hate speech in the region.

This is what Kurti said in response to the statements made by Aleksandar Vucic, who threatened with “unpredictable consequences” following the arrest of Serbian official Igor Popovic in Kosovo. Popovic was arrested last week for inciting statements made in Hoçë of Rahovec against the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

He added that this is not the first time “Vucic’s Serbia has attempted to interfere in Kosovo’s internal affairs through illegal structures and hybrid actions.”

Furthermore, during the press conference, Kurti stated that Kosovo will not tolerate any form of involvement by criminal groups in public life.

He called on all citizens of Kosovo to avoid traveling to Serbian territory, noting that there are indications of risks of provocations and arbitrary detentions by Serbian authorities.

The acting Prime Minister also called on the European Union, NATO, and the entire international community to “respond clearly and decisively to Vucic’s threats.”

He said that illegal structures have been replaced with institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, and that criminal groups have been replaced with rule of law and public order.
