Citizens of the Republic of Kosovo are exercising today their constitutional right to vote. These are the regular local elections, held in all 38 municipalities of Kosovo.
According to data from the Central Election Commission (CEC), the number of citizens eligible to vote at polling stations is 2,069,098 voters. Of these, 43,993 citizens living outside Kosovo have registered to vote.
Voting by mail began on September 17 and ended yesterday, October 11.
The number of certified political entities participating in these elections is 93, of which: 32 political parties, 2 coalitions, 32 citizens’ initiatives, and 27 independent candidates.
The total number of certified candidates representing these entities is 5,624, including 205 candidates for mayoral elections and 5,419 candidates for municipal assemblies.
Polling stations will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. This period is considered election silence.
The election process will be organized in 938 polling centers with a total of 2,625 polling stations — of which 910 centers (with 2,571 polling stations) are for regular voting, and 38 centers (with 54 polling stations) are for conditional voting.
If a second round of voting is required, it will take place four weeks after today’s election process.
The Central Election Commission has published on its official website the procedures that voters must follow on election day. Remember: you must have your identification document with you.
In addition to the CEC, several other institutions — such as the Kosovo Police, State Prosecutor’s Office, Election Complaints and Appeals Panel, Kosovo Judicial Council, and Independent Media Commission — will be involved to ensure the proper conduct of the process.
This is the second time this year that Kosovo’s citizens are heading to the polls. On February 9, parliamentary elections were held.
