“Justice for the Liberators”: Protest to be held in Tirana on October 17

A protest will be held in Tirana, Albania, on October 17 demanding justice for the former commanders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

The protest will take place at “Skanderbeg” Square, as announced in a press conference by the KLA War Veterans Association. This protest is organized by the categories that emerged from the war of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

The head of the KLA War Veterans Association (WVA-KLA), Hysni Gucati, speaking from Tirana, said that this protest follows the one held in Prishtina and another in The Hague — the Dutch city where the Specialist Chambers are based.

He expressed expectations that this protest will be supported by Albanian parties there, noting that the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) traces its origins to Albania.

The head of the KLA Martyrs’ Families Association, Xhavit Jashari, said that the Specialist Chambers are “attacking and attempting to tarnish our just and pure war.”

At the press conference in Tirana, Jashari said that local institutions, as well as those in Tirana and Skopje, are “obliged to react and demand justice for the former KLA leaders.”

The co-organizer of the protest, Azgan Haklaj, called on Albanians from all countries to unite on October 17.

Another protest was held in The Hague on September 14, a day before the testimony of the first defense witness, former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State James Rubin, began. The protest was held near the Specialist Chambers building, with around 10,000 Albanians from across the world participating. Also, on August 7, the KLA War Veterans Association gathered in Prishtina, along with former fighters and other citizens, in a protest against what they view as the injustices carried out by the Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
