The ambassador of the United States of America to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, has expressed concern that the decision to ban the Serbian dinar could trigger tensions in the north.
After the meeting with Prime Minister Albin Kurti on Thursday, the US ambassador reiterated reservations about the CBK Regulation, which came into force today, which states that the euro is the only official currency in the country, and which bans the Serbian dinar, which the community Serbs in the north received funds from Serbia.
He said that the government should find a transition way to fully implement this Regulation, but without harming the Serbian community in Kosovo.
According to him, this decision was hasty and not fully thought out, as he considers that there is still work to be done to ensure that there is no impact on the daily lives of individuals.
He also took some examples, where according to him, the Serbian citizens of Kosovo, who receive pensions from Serbia, will be harmed.
Also, in a statement issued today by the EU regarding the decision of the CBK, it is said that they are concerned about the consequences that this decision may have on the daily life of Kosovo Serbs.
From today, the Regulation of the Central Bank of Kosovo came into force, which decides that only the euro currency can be used for cash payments. This regulation stipulates that only the euro currency will be used for payments, removing the Serbian dinar from use. Meanwhile, the Government of Kosovo has announced that the implementation of the new regulation for cash operations will be done through an easy transition. /KosovaPress/
